Summer Skin 5 Top Tips

Hi lovelys,

So with the weather slowly getting warmer, and the sun occasionally making an appearance (!), we thought it would be a great time to share our top 5 tips on how to keep your skin and hair in good condition this summer. Although its lovely to be out in the sunshine,
it can also be very harmful to your skin so its important to stay protected and amp up your skin care regime.

Tip no.1 - Stay Hydrated
Its important to drink as much water as possible anyway, but during the summer its extra important. The hot weather will make you sweat more so your body will be absorbing more water. Drinking plenty will keep your skin hydrated, make you feel more awake, and is very beneficial for your body in general!

Tip no.2 - Moisturise
Again, it is super important to moisturise your skin at least once a day anyway, but during the summer your skin will need the extra moisture even more because it will help restore the skin after being in the sun and moisturised skin tans better than dryer skin. Also, if you're thinking of using fake or gradual tan - it is essential your skin is moisturised to prevent a blotchy looking tan (deffo not a good look).

Tip no.3 - SPF
Many skin care gurus suggest using an SPF under foundation every day, even in the winter - however I'm sure 99% of us don't do that.. or is it just me!? But I think its important in the summer to make a conscious effort to apply a high SPF under foundation - and all over our bodies if we're outside in the sun. I've always been quite cautious about what face SPF to use as the normal suncreams are super greasy and not good for the more sensitive skin on your face. However, i have been reading up on a few good facial SPFs, and the ones with the best reviews are: Kiehls Ultra Light Daily Defence (SPF 50), Chanel UV Essentiel Complete (SPF 50), and the La Roche Posay Anthelios Face Comfort Cream (SPF 50+).

Tip no.4 - Protecting you hair
People often forget about their hair in the summer - but it can very easily become dry and dehydrated too. Your best option is keeping the ends, in particular, out of the sun as much as possible. You can do this by putting it up in a messy bun or putting it in a plait. Wearing a big floppy hat will also help keep the sun from frazzling your hair, and they look super cute too.. win win! Finally, you could also use an intense conditioner on your hair once a week to make sure it keeps as silky smooth as possible - I love this one from Aussie - smells amazing too!

Tip no.5 - Foundation
I know not everyone will want to wear a heavy foundation - or a foundation at all - while the weather is hotter - but for those of us who still want a bit of coverage but don't want to go for the full on face of make up look, a light foundation or BB/CC cream might be the way to go. I personally love MAC Face and Body foundation - it is pretty much a tinted moisturiser which can be built up for a heavier coverage if needed - so a fab all round product. A water-proof foundation may also be a good investment. This one from Shiseido is water-resistant and has SPF 30 in it, perfect for use on holiday.

Hope you're enjoying the sun,
LLB x
